SC additions and a Little Sumpin' for those Volunteers

The nickname "Sandlappers" stems from a Revolutionary War battle in which the South Carolina militia lay flat in the sand to avoid British musket fire. The British saw this as cowardlly and joked that the South Carolinians looked as if they were lapping up sand. But because of the ultimate South Carolina victory, the term Sandlapper endeared itself to people in the state.

Also, South Carolina was the 8th state to join the Union (May 23, 1788).
